If you are new to php and are looking for a good way to get into the game fast, then Komodo Edit is an excellent tool to get started with.

You can set up Komodo to do php debugging on the fly while you code. No more having to upload and fixing tons of errors that could have been caught as you were coding. Komodo Edit also supports a form of "intellisense" for php and several other web languages such as Html, Css, and many more.

For those of you who are looking to take on coding even more seriously you might considered the paid version of Komodo, Komodo IDE. This integrates your databases and allows you to debug on your local machine before uploading things to your webserver. There are many other features that come with this robust web editing system. Easily comparable (and possibly better) than Adobe's dreamweaver for those who are all about coding.
